South Bay Tennis Center prides itself in being a facility that is constantly introducing tennis to new players who have never even held a racket before. We also strive to pull players of all levels who might need to dust off there rackets and spend some time relearning the basics. We specialize in group clinics for 4 or more players who need some intense basic instruction and need to regain their confidence in their form. One special benefit to South Bay Tennis Center programming is that we provide all the necessary equipment including the rackets.

South Bay Tennis Center offers daily adult and junior competitive level classes.  For the competitive junior player we offer a drop in elite program that runs Monday thru Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00.  The program is designed for the highschool level player or satelite or competitive junior player.  During the workout we do live ball hitting, matchplay, fitness, strategy work and drilling.  The junior program is designed for the players who are actively trying to play touraments and/or competing in team tennis competition.  SBTC also offers 3 levels of play with our team tennis teams, novice, satelite and open(advanced level).

For our adults who played college tennis or have tournament experience Courtney offers a 5.5 level class on Monday nights.  All players must be approved by Courtney.  Other advanced classes are offered for A level players in the mornings Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 9:30am with Courtney or Tuesday and Thursday mornings with coach Sveto at 9:00am.   Coach Sammy offers advanced classes Sat and Sundays at 8am, 9:30 and 11:00.  Drop in to any of these classes and pay only $20.00 dollars for members or $25.00 for non members.

South Bay Tennis Center is continually having Adult Social Round Robin events. These events usually concur with monthly holidays and are almost always held on Fridays from 6-8pm. Some of the past Round Robin events that we have had include an annual Halloween Dress-Up event where players are paired with different partners after 8 games, and turn in their scores after each rotation to try and win the First or Second Place prizes. The Fourth of July Round Robin consisted of teen bump-up competiton where players were placed on teams and competed to move up the ladder to try and get to the top court. These events are advertised on line, or feel free to call director, Courtney Hance to find out when the next Friday night Round Robin Social is being hosted.

USPTA PRO for over 25 YEARS

I have been teaching tennis to all ages for over 25 years. I was a nationally ranked junior from the time I was 12 thru the age of 18. I played NCAA Division 1 Collegiate Tennis at the University of San Diego. I was Nationally ranked in Singles and Doubles and captained my team to a National Ranking of #12 my senior year. I received numerous accolades over the course of my playing career, including being named an Academic All American as well as my teams MVP in 1990. I also competed in Europe following graduation.

As an instructor I enjoy the challenge of learning to speak the language of each individual student. Everyone learns in a unique way. It is my goal to fluently speak the “learning language” of every player who walks onto my court, and to use this knowledge to access their full potential. I find using “Danalogies” (analogies by Dan) is one of the best ways to help players understand what can initially seem like an impossible language. Tennis technique and strategy can be confusing. I’m here to help make the ideas easy to grasp, to give my students confidence, and to make the process fun. I love the "game" of tennis and I enjoy sharing my strategic knowledge to teach how to effectively compete at all levels.

Tennis is an incredible metaphor for life. Not only will you learn about tennis when you work with me, you will learn about yourself. My tennis instruction is tough but fun. The joy is in the journey. When the journey is traveled in the right way, winning and losing become less important. Focus should always be on improvement. Progress not perfection will become your mantra to a more enjoyable and competitive life as a tennis player.
