I grew up in the south bay, obtaining top 100 status in USTA boys 14 and 16s in SoCal. In my junior years, I travelled around Asia playing the ITF juniors. I earned a full scholarship to Konkuk University and graduated with a degree in sports science. During my time in college I was able to practice and train with the Davis cup team and get mentored by the head coach for the Davis cup team. I was able to obtain a ranking of top 100 in Korea. I have played numerous Jr. Opens, ITF Juniors, National tournaments, Men’s Opens, and ITF futures. After my time of playing, I worked as a coach in Korea, bringing junior students up to rankings of top 500 in the world. After that, I had an opportunity to work as a hitting partner/assistant coach in an international academy in Taiwan where I was able to train with and coach ATP/WTA/ITF players. I truly enjoy playing the game of tennis as well as teaching the game of tennis. I also view tennis as a school of life. Tennis can teach work ethic, perseverance, patience, humility, etc, everything we need in order to live a successful life.

DanMattera(USPTA)

I have been teaching tennis to all ages for over 20 years. I was a nationally ranked junior from the time I was 12 thru the age of 18. I played for Division 1 in college at The University of San Diego where I was Nationally ranked in Singles and Doubles and where my team finished #12 in the country my senior year. I was team captain and also named the teams MVP my senior year.

As an instructor I enjoy the challenge of learning to speak the language of each individual student. As we all learn in our own unique way. My goal is to teach you in a way that you best understand stroke production and strategy. I love the "game" of tennis and I enjoy sharing my strategic knowledge to teach you how to beat all kinds of opponents.

Tennis is an incredible metaphor for life. Not only will you learn about tennis when you work with me, you will learn about yourself. I'm also passionate about fitness and I conduct a fitness camp called DanCamp twice a week. it is a non tennis strength and conditioning workout that takes place on my court. My tennis instruction is tough but fun. The joy is in the journey. When the journey is traveled in the right way, improvement and winning takes care of itself.

I have been very fortunate to have had an opportunity to coach both domestically and internationally for the past 12 years. After playing for Rutgers University for 4 years, I travelled to Japan and was mentored by the Davis Cup captain at his academy to become a national coach. There, I worked and travelled with tour pros, itf players and nationally ranked juniors. After several years of high performance training and becoming a national coach, I was assigned a position as a director and head coach of an academy in Saga, Japan where I worked for 5 years. Upon my return back home to New Jersey 3 years ago, I became the head coach of the tennis club I grew up playing in. Every US Open since 2012, I've been assigned as the official coach for Japan's high school national champion participating in the US Open Juniors.

Now, I'm here in the South Bay hoping to start fresh with a brand new challenge and I look forward to working with you all! My teaching background is very diverse. I have worked with children and adults starting tennis for the first time, to juniors training to go pro, and to pros hoping to win at the grand slam level. I truly enjoy teaching the game of tennis and my goal is to have my students fall in love with tennis over and over again. Working overseas and traveling on tour has taught me the importance of being open minded to all the different cultures in society and to be understanding and sincere to everybody. I feel that every player is unique and that you must cater to each individual and not force a philosophy. I look forward to seeing you on the tennis court!!
